This blood pressure category calculator classifies your reading by widely used ranges: Normal, Elevated, Hypertension Stage 1, Stage 2 or Hypertensive Crisis. Enter systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) in mmHg. If you add extra readings, the tool computes an average to improve reliability.
The higher category between SBP and DBP determines your result. The tool also reports MAP and Pulse Pressure for additional context. For ongoing tracking, measure at the same time of day, under similar conditions, and follow your provider’s advice.
FAQ
- How is blood pressure categorized?
Normal: <120 and <80 mmHg;
Elevated: 120–129 and <80 mmHg;
Stage 1 HTN: 130–139 or 80–89 mmHg;
Stage 2 HTN: ≥140 or ≥90 mmHg;
Crisis: ≥180 and/or ≥120 mmHg (urgent evaluation). - Which value rules if they disagree?
The higher category between systolic and diastolic. - Why average multiple readings?
To reduce random variability and white-coat effect; rest 5 minutes before measuring. - What are MAP and Pulse Pressure?
MAP ≈ (SBP + 2×DBP)/3; Pulse Pressure = SBP − DBP. - Do I need to convert units?
No — blood pressure is measured in mmHg in both US and metric contexts.
